Feminism in The Study of Religion
Feminism in The Study of Religion: A Reader is a compilation of articles which look at the significant related to feminist analyses and their application in the study of religion. The book provides students of feminism and religious studies with an overview of the Intersection and development of feminism in the study of religion, by focusing on the processes of this engagement between the two disciplines. Part 1 develops significant themes related to feminist theorizing; Part 2 focuses on how these themes function when applied to the study of women in religion. Parts 3 and 4 push feminist theories further by problematizing them within the study of religion itself, drawing on notions of difference and the tendency of early feminism to negate geographical, political, economic and ethnic differences. Part 5 shifts the focus to engage derectly with masculine theories from the modernist to the post-colonial writer and film-maker T. Minh-ha Trinh, whose lens provides a sharp critique of the West, both feminist and androcentric.
